Santorini Travel Tips
I’m returning to Greece in a few weeks and wanted to share some tips from my first time in Santorini that I wish I learned from social media.
Getting Around
Transportation Options
Rent a car, take the bus, or use taxis. Be aware that taxis and Ubers can get pricey quickly.
If you’re a budget traveler, Staying at a hotel near a bus stop can be convenient. Check the bus schedules, especially during peak season, as lines can be long, and you might not get on the first bus.
Prepare to walk a lot. Oia is a village on a hill, so expect to go up and down. The streets are cobblestone and can be slippery. Wear comfortable shoes and save the heels for photo moments.
Thira and Oia are walkable. To explore thoroughly, each part should take no more than two days.
Book Transfers in Advance
If you arrive by ferry, prepay for your transfer before you come to save time and money.
Download your tickets on your phone, as service around the ferries can be spotty.
Food and Restaurants
Food prices vary by location. Dining in Oia can be expensive. Make reservations in advance for popular restaurants.
For traditional Greek food that won’t break the bank, explore areas outside of Fira.
Perissa Beach
If you’re visiting Perrisa Beach, it’s a cute beach town, but the black sand is hot! So don’t walk barefoot.
Download Offline Maps
Download maps offline to navigate without relying on cell service, which can be unreliable in the smaller villages.
